I was asked why today is called Good Friday despite our Lord’s death
All history had been leading up to this focal point in history, when our Lord Jesus paid the penalty for our sin on the cruel cross of Calvary and provided the only direct way back to His Father
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me
John 14:6
There had been foreshadowings in the Old Testament, at Passover when the only way to avoid the angel of death was through the blood of sacrifice and when the Lord provided the substitutory ram in the thicket to enable Isaac to escape being sacrificed
It’s humbling to see what my Saviour suffered on Good Friday because that’s the price I should have paid for my sin. It’s humbling to know my sin put Him on that cross. Thank you, Lord Jesus for reconciling me back to your Father and making it the best Friday ever
The sin debt was fully paid and our Lord could finally say, ‘It is finished’
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord
Romans 6:22
