So, how do we come to a saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ?
The just shall live by faith
Romans 1:17
Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God
Romans 10:17
These passages in Romans teach us that the fundamental doctrines of our faith and ultimately salvation come to us through the Bible. How fortunate are we to live in the church age when we have our own personal copy of the Bible, where we can read and know our Lord’s very thoughts. Ephesians 3:8 describes these thoughts as the ‘unsearchable riches of Christ’
Jesus prays to the Father in John 17:17:
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth
John 17:17
1 John 4:1 warns us against false prophets and commends us to test the spirits. Gal 1:7-9 tells us how to test the spirits – by testing everything against what is taught in the Bible, the Word of God:
7 But there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed 9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed
Galatians 1:7-9
Thank you, Lord Jesus for being the ‘author and finisher of our faith’ (Heb 12:2) and for your precious Word
